Taylor Hawkins, the drummer for the Foo Fighters, was found dead in his hotel room in Colombia on Friday.
According to the Associated Press, Hawkins, 50, had been a member of the band for 25 years with his best friend and singer Dave Grohl. While there has been no official word on what caused his death, the band did issue a statement on Twitter lamenting the “tragic and untimely loss” of their drummer.
The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.

According to the New York Post, emergency services were sent to the Four Seasons Casa Medina Hotel in search of Hawkins. An ambulance had already been dispatched to a patient complaining of “chest pain” at Bogota’s emergency center, the Associated Press reports.
Many musicians, including Finneas Eilish, Tom Morello, and Gene Simmons, expressed their sorrow over Hawkins’ death on Twitter and other social media platforms, the Post reported. In his 2021 book “The Storyteller,” Grohl wrote of Hawkins, “Our bond was immediate and we grew closer with every day, every song, every note that we ever played together.”
“We are absolutely meant to be, and I am grateful that we found each other in this lifetime.”
