Experts have said that stress is one of the leading causes of all diseases and health conditions. It is especially dangerous when manifested by some vague symptoms which make it difficult to detect. It is important to find a way to relax as it is the first step in the prevention of various health issues.
Here are the most common signs that you could be overstressed:
Sleeping problems
If your sleep patterns are drastically changed and you are not sleeping, or if you sleep too much due to fatigue, it is time to make a change in your lifestyle. When you are overstressed, your body finds the best way it can to cope with the stress. You need to find the cause for these difficulties if you have nightmares, or if you worry a lot before going to sleep.
You may want to try some relaxing techniques like yoga, exercise, healthier diet, and meditation, to reduce stress.
Loss of hair
Carolyn Jacob, MD, founder and medical director of Chicago Cosmetic Surgery and Dermatology, says that “typically, people shed about 100 hairs a day.” Most people do not even notice.
Significant stress may spark a change in your body’s routine physiological functions, and cause a disproportionate number of hairs to go into the resting phase at the same time.
Three to four months later, all those resting hairs are shed. “The types of events that disrupt the normal hair cycle can be caused by the substantial physiological stresses on your body.”
Major mood swings
When stress influences your hormone levels, you can experience major mood swings. Stress may lead to anxiety, addictions, obsessive compulsive disorders and other mental health issues. It is imperative that you talk to someone or do something to deal with stress and prevent further complications.
Weight fluctuations
Stress can and will cause sudden weight changes. While stressed out, you slow down your metabolism causing weight gain, or appetite loss and weight loss.
Pain in the body
You may pain in your body, but it may indicate a serious health problem. Stress can cause your body to start breaking down, causing chest pains, stomach issues, ulcers, diarrhea, tense muscles, and palpitations.
Headaches can become intense, arthritis more severe, and your whole body will begin to ache.
Unable to sit still
When you are overstressed, you will become restless, anxious, and uncomfortable in your body. You need to address the issue, face your fears and thoughts and soothe your troubled mind.
Constantly thinking about your job
If you are constantly thinking about finances, work, obligations, and cannot relax, you are too overstressed. You have to detach from the problem, or you cannot solve it.
Worrying just complicates things even more and cause various psychological and physical problems. You need to find time to enjoy the moment, and stop checking your cell phone, and looking at the calendar for your next meeting. Relax and spend some time with your loved ones.
Weakened libido
Libido is affected by stress, so the higher the stress levels, the fewer hormones for sexual response. Stress results in exhaustion and the inability to experience intimacy.
Little patience for others
If you become impatient, angry, intolerant, and irritated, even with your closest friends and family, you may be exhausted. You need to slow down and manage stress, as it negatively affects your everyday life.
