We live in a fast-paced world.
We get annoyed when people are too slow, and we get frustrated when things don’t happen the way we want. We’re impatient, living in a world that is fast-paced and constantly on high speed.
Unfortunately, this can harden our hearts.
Living a life in “express mode” can cause us to overlook those in need and miss opportunities to show compassion or kindness.
This story reminds us to slow down and notice those around us.
The most beautiful part?
It was a four-year-old who helped teach everyone a beautiful lesson...
An aging grandfather had hands that trembled, blurred vision, and difficulty walking.
He lived with his son, daughter-in-law, and his four-year-old grandson, and the four would often eat dinner together.
However, as the grandfather aged, it became more difficult to eat.
Often the old grandfather would spill his food or drink during dinnertime.
His trembling hands made it difficult to grab his utensils or cup, resulting in spilled milk on the table or broken dishes. Despite his efforts, the grandfather would sometimes make a mess due to his aging body.
His son grew frustrated, telling his wife, “We must do something about father, I’ve had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor.”
The couple forced the grandfather to eat at a table in the corner.
They served the old man food in a wooden bowl so that he could no longer break dishes. Cast aside and eating alone, the grandfather would often have a tear in his eye as he sat rejected.
The couple sat at the main table with their young son, who watched everything in silence.
And then he did something incredible…
The young boy was playing with pieces of wood when his father asked, “What are you making?”
The smiling boy looked at his father and told him, “I am making a little bowl for you and Mama to eat your food in when I grow up.”
The father began to cry as he realized the important lesson his young son had just taught him. He had cast his only father aside and grew irritated with his aging body and inconvenience to his regular schedule. Yet at only four years old, his son was able to demonstrate sympathy and thoughtfulness.
The family realized their mistake and welcomed the grandfather to the main table, enjoying every remaining meal with the old man.
This little boy can remind us all to slow down and notice those around us, as you never know when someone may need your kindness and compassion.
