A hero football coach has died while shielding students from gunfire during the Florida school massacre.
Aaron Feis was among those killed when former student Nikolas Cruz went on the rampage at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.
The school’s football team tweeted: ‘It is with Great sadness that our Football Family has learned about the death of Aaron Feis.
‘He was our Assistant Football Coach and security guard. He selflessly shielded students from the shooter when he was shot. He died a hero and he will forever be in our hearts and memories.’
Feis had been a security guard at the school for eight years, according to students
Twitter user @DiCiccoMethod tweeted: ‘Coaches are always protectors… Some heroes wear Gatorade towels over their shoulders.’
Many tweeted that Feis jumped in front of students during the shooting and took several bullets.
And @ScottWarner18 tweeted: ‘Rather than talk about the coward shooter, meet Aaron Feis, football coach & security guard at Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS. He stepped in front of many students to protect them from bullets. #hero #Parkland.’
It comes as a teenage girl and a beloved track coach were identified as the first of the 17 victims shot by the 19-year-old gunman.
Chris Hixon, 49, was shot and killed when Nikolas Cruz, 19, open fire Wednesday afternoon.
Student Jaime Guttenburg has also been identified as a victim, according to Local 10 News. Her parents Fred and Jennifer Guttenberg said she died in the shooting, while their son, Jesse, made it home.
