A mother and father are being investigated by police after a video emerged appearing to show hot sauce being poured down a child’s pants in order to potty train him.
The video was uploaded to Snapchat with the caption ‘potty training 101’ which was filmed in a house in Oklahoma.
A man in the video lifts a child over his shoulder and appears to pour a bottle which looks like hot sauce down his pants before squirting a handful of the liquid in his hand and smearing it on the crying boy’s face.
The child’s mother has denied that this was the case, but officers have decided to probe the footage.
Shana Honeycutt, of Edmond, Oklahoma, spotted the clip on a private Facebook group.
She was so horrified by what she saw she decided to share it online.
‘It’s abuse,’ she told News9.
‘You don’t potty train by pouring hot sauce down a baby’s pants and wiping it all over the face,’ she told News9.
The clip shared online was a sped-up version of the original – something the mother said skewed what the viewer was seeing.
The child appears to be crying in the clip, but she said he was laughing just seconds after the recording ended.
She claimed no hot sauce came into contact with her son.
‘You can see that nothing went down his pants, and nothing was in his mouth,’ she told News9.
The boy’s mother received death threats online, leading her to dump her accounts.
She said she would never put her child in danger, but Choctaw Police pursued with their inquiry.
Officers visited the house on Wednesday, and while investigations are ongoing, they reported the child appeared to be in a ‘safe home’.
