However, the reference of “cherry ChapStick” in the song isn’t just an innocent reference to lip balm. Perhaps the night was cold and Perry’s character in the song had put cherry-flavored ChapStick on her lips. The cherry ChapStick-covered lips Perry is referring to aren’t those, according to multiple interpretations on the web.

Maybe because in the popular game Just Dance which featured a song featuring “Cherry ChapStick”, this line was censored. Why would developers censor such an innocuous phrase as lip balm? Is it because they do not want to give any free product placement opportunities for brands of products like Chapstick?
