Budsies Plush Company Makes Kids’ Drawings Into Reality
Have you ever drawn something crazy in your childhood that you wished would become alive, like weird aliens, exotic animals, or giant dragons? What if we told you there’s a company out there that’s set to turning those drawings into reality? Budsies is a company founded by Alex Furmansky back in 2013. The founder was inspired by his little sister Michelle’s drawings. “What if I could turn a drawing into a stuffed animal friend that would last forever?” he asked himself. The plush that gave the company a start was a dog-like creature named Dongler, who Alex created from one of his sister’s drawings – and others soon followed.
“In the beginning, most of the orders were of kids’ drawings, doodles, and other artwork,” told Melissa, a representative of the company in an interview with Bored Panda. “Now, we see everything from a child’s first drawing, to detailed original characters, author’s book characters, sports team mascots, and more. The idea is truly limitless and that’s what makes Budsies so special.”

Even though Budsies started by turning children’s drawings into stuffed animals, eventually more people started requesting fanart and pets to be turned into plushies. The company says they have made over 76,000 plushies for people in over 60 countries so far.
The sudden success of the company eventually led to a new branch, ‘Petsies’, being created – they specialize in creating custom stuffed animals based on peoples’ pets.
The price of a custom Budsie plush toy starts at $99 but the final price depends on the size and detail of the plushie. Each Budsie can be ordered to be made from super soft plush and include faux fur or custom embroidery.
“We’ve had people cry, scream, lots of hugging their Budsies plush, and people who are just speechless,” said Melissa. “We’ve also made Budsies in honor of someone who has passed, and those are very emotional reactions that really touch our entire Budsies team and community.”
Budsies also have a program they call “Budsies Pals” – the company works closely with healthcare providers to make custom plushes for kids in need. “Some of the Budsies that we have made are from drawings of kids who unfortunately passed away and the Budsies are given to the family,” explained Melissa. “It very touching knowing that we have given something to these families who have been through so much.”
Budsies empowers artists and creatives of all ages: from the 3 yr old drawing his first-ever doodle creature to the 73-year-old publishing her 10th graphic novel. They aim to show children that the impact of their imagination has no limits – that a few brushstrokes can manifest a huggable 3-eyed, pink-haired, Kerflufflepuff that defends the galaxy (aka their bedroom) against monsters, and that their own ideas, no matter how simple or fanciful, are worth turning into real-life creations.
