Judge William Culver Suspended for Cursing Out Defendant
An angry and foul-mouthed Florida judge was removed from his position after telling a defendant to “shut up” and calling him an “a–hole” in court.
According to WESH, after a shocking video of a February confrontation surfaced, Seminole County Judge William Culver was suspended for 60 days. Culver was adjudicating another case in the courtroom when an unidentified man walked in and began muttering to himself as he sat down to wait for his hearing to begin. Culver noticed him right away and asked him to quiet down.
The irritated jurist asked, “Can you just shut up and sit down?” before things got out of hand.
In response to the apparent denial of the demand, the man continued: “That’s not shutting up,” said the man.
“Would you rather be regarded as a slut?” After that, he gave the man a word of caution. But unfortunately, Culver lost his cool when he didn’t get the expected response.
“I asked you an f—ing question, a–hole!” the judge said before telling him to “shut up.”
Judge William Culver violated the judicial code of conduct.
There were two incidents in particular that the Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission used as evidence to penalize the judge. First, an inmate claimed in January that Culver would be content to have him in prison for as long as they would rename it after him, according to Culver’s testimony.
‘The most important words you’ll ever hear as long as you live as an organism on this planet,’ said Judge Culver, according to the commission’s ruling obtained by WESH.'” To add insult to injury, “the Court followed that up by telling the pro-se respondent he would be jailed so long that he would have to be renamed after [him].”
A public reprimand, an anger management class, and stress management counseling are on the horizon for Culver.
The judge’s “sarcastic and mocking” behavior in the courtroom was found to violate the judicial code of conduct by the Commission on Judicial Conduct.
According to the commission, “his words and actions are as offensive as they are inappropriate.”
