The new poll shows just 4 out of 10 Americans have a favorable opinion about Biden, which is the lowest rating for him since he took office. President Biden approval rating has fallen 11 points since April, leaving him at 53% disapproval and 41% approval according to ABC News/Washington Post poll.
The slide comes amidst a series of failures, including an inflation rate that hit 31-year highs. The supply chain crisis just in time for the holiday season and the continued high unemployment numbers.
Wages rose by 4.9%, but inflation has shot up to 6% Since October 2020. In the survey conducted between November 7-10, seven out of ten adults say the economy is in “bad shape”, an increase from 58% who felt that way last spring.
According to the ABC News/Washington Post poll, Biden’s disapproval rating on the economy is six points higher than President Donald Trump‘s highest disapproval rating in September 2017. The president’s approval ratings for the economy and overall job performance are very similar.
If the midterms were held today, it would be a landslide victory for Republicans in their congressional district. According to an informal poll of registered voters- over 51 percent support a Republican candidate while 41% said they’d vote a Democrat. The polls show that this is the biggest lead for GOP in 40 years.
Biden’s win after Congress finally passed the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill was not enough to bump his approval rating. He has proposed a Build Back Better agenda which could lead his administration to push even harder for passage of this massive social and welfare spending.
Biden’s policies are popular than he himself. A recent poll shows that many of Biden’s keystone has high levels of support; there is 63% favorability toward infrastructure bill and 58 percent backing for the $2 trillion spending bill still under debate in Congress.
The majority of Americans are disappointed with Biden’s performance as President. Only 31% feel he is keeping his major campaign promises, and only 35% approve how much work he has done for this country so far.
